Team India faced a setback in the second ODI against New Zealand as spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar was unavailable due to an acute onset discomfort in his lower rib area. Sundar had bowled only five overs in the series-opener but played a crucial role with the bat as India chased down 301 to win the match.

Ayush Badoni was called in as his replacement but did not get a chance to play in Rajkot. The selectors and management will keep a close eye on Sundar’s injury, especially with the T20 World Cup approaching. The all-rounder is a key part of India’s squad for the tournament and his fitness will be monitored closely before the event.

In addition to Sundar, India also have concerns over Tilak Varma, who recently underwent surgery for an abdominal issue. Varma will miss the first three T20Is against New Zealand and will be assessed before the final two matches. Despite the injuries, Suryakumar Yadav’s team has been in good form in T20Is, not losing a series since he took over as captain.

India will kick off their T20 World Cup campaign against USA on February 7 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The defending champions are in a tough group that includes USA, Pakistan, Namibia, and The Netherlands. With a strong team and a winning streak in T20Is, India will be looking to lift the T20 World Cup trophy once again under Suryakumar Yadav’s leadership.
