Alleged killer husband Brendan Banfield is currently on trial for the murder of his wife, Christine, and a second victim, Joseph Ryan, in a twisted plot to be with his Brazilian au pair, Juliana Peres Magalhaes. Authorities in Virginia revealed shocking details about Banfield’s behavior following the murders, including moving Magalhaes’ lingerie into his wife’s closet and replacing photos of him and Christine with pictures of him and the nanny.
Sgt. Kenner Fortner of the Fairfax County Police Department described how Magalhaes’ clothing, including red lingerie, had been relocated from her bedroom to the master bedroom in the months following the murders. Additionally, photographs of Banfield and his late wife had been swapped with images of him and Magalhaes during this same period.
The 40-year-old defendant is accused of orchestrating a plan with Magalhaes to lure Ryan, a stranger, to their home under false pretenses. The couple allegedly posed as Christine online and arranged for Ryan to engage in a sexual encounter, which ultimately led to his death at their hands.
When Ryan began assaulting the sleeping Christine, Magalhaes contacted Banfield, who then returned to the residence and shot Ryan before fatally stabbing his wife in the neck. The prosecution alleges that Banfield and Magalhaes planned to stage the murders as a botched home invasion to cover up their heinous crimes.
The trial continues to unfold with testimonies from witnesses, including Magalhaes, shedding light on the chilling events that transpired on that fateful day. As the case progresses, more details are expected to emerge, unraveling the depths of deception and betrayal that lie at the heart of this tragic story.
