NBC has recently announced the greenlighting of a new crime investigation drama pilot, marking their third drama pilot pickup of the week. This untitled project comes from the creative minds of writers and executive producers Dean Georgaris, known for his work on “Quantum Leap,” and John Fox, who has worked on “The Equalizer.”
The show, produced by Universal Studio Group’s Universal TV and executive producer John Davis of Davis Entertainment, follows the story of Professor Georgia Ryan. Described as a trailblazing psychologist, Ryan challenges the traditional methods of criminology by shifting the investigative focus to the victim rather than solely the perpetrator. With her team, she collaborates with the FBI to solve complex and elusive cases.
Inspired by the real-life work of expert profiler and author Dr. Ann Burgess, the character of Ryan draws from Burgess’ groundbreaking contributions to the field of forensic psychology. Burgess, a forensic nurse, revolutionized the assessment and treatment of trauma in rape victims and later worked closely with the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit.
Dr. Ann Burgess is actively involved in the NBC pilot as a consulting producer, alongside Steven Constantine. Together, they have co-authored books such as “A Killer by Design: Murderers, Mindhunters, and My Quest to Decipher the Criminal Mind” and “Expert Witness: The Weight of Our Testimony When Justice Hangs in the Balance.”
Burgess has lent her expertise to high-profile cases involving individuals like Bill Cosby and the Menendez Brothers, earning recognition as a Living Legend by the American Academy of Nursing.
Dean Georgaris, known for his work on projects like “The Meg” and “The Baker and the Beauty,” and John Fox, with credits such as “The Blacklist” and “Magnum P.I.,” bring their wealth of experience to this new venture.
In addition to this upcoming drama, NBC has been actively reviving the pilot season tradition with other exciting projects. “Protection,” written by Josh Safran, explores the story of a family of law enforcement agents targeted by a mysterious assassin. The network has also picked up a reboot of “The Rockford Files” from writer and executive producer Mike Daniels, along with Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman.
As NBC aims to bring back the essence of a traditional pilot season, viewers can anticipate a diverse range of compelling stories and characters in the near future.
