In a disturbing series of events, four people were viciously attacked in separate incidents within the New York City subway system in just over 24 hours, leaving authorities and commuters on edge.
The first incident occurred around 5:40 p.m. on a Sunday, when a ski-mask-wearing assailant approached a transit worker on the northbound No. 7 train platform at the 74th Street and Roosevelt Avenue stop in Jackson Heights, Queens. The attacker punched the 46-year-old victim in the face without any provocation, asking menacingly, “Do you know me?” before fleeing the scene. The victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center for treatment and is in stable condition.
The suspect, described as wearing a black ski mask, clear glasses, a black jacket, pants, and shoes, remains at large. In a separate incident the following day, a 16-year-old boy was slashed in the back of the head at the Seneca Avenue M train station in Ridgewood, Queens. The victim was rushed to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center and is also in stable condition. The perpetrator has not been apprehended.
Later that same day, an 18-year-old teenager was stabbed and slashed during a brawl with a stranger believed to be in his 30s at the Freeman Street platform in Crotona Park East, Bronx. The victim sustained injuries to his back, neck, and elbow and was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital for treatment. The attacker fled the scene, and the motive behind the altercation remains unclear.
In a separate incident at the Rockaway Avenue No. 3 train station in Brownsville, Brooklyn, a 33-year-old man was slashed across the forehead during a violent altercation with a stranger in his 20s. The victim was transported to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
These attacks come on the heels of another disturbing incident where a man was pushed onto subway tracks in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, by a brutish stranger. The victim, a 35-year-old man, was pushed onto the roadbed at 36th Street without any warning. Fortunately, responding officers were able to help the victim back onto the platform, and he is currently in stable condition.
The NYPD is actively investigating these incidents and urging anyone with information to come forward. Commuters are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior to authorities to ensure the safety of all passengers in the subway system.
