Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell, the iconic comedy duo, are set to reunite once again for a horror comedy film titled “Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein.” This exciting announcement was made during the Amazon sports talk show “Good Sports,” where Thompson co-hosts with Kevin Hart, but this time, Mitchell was filling in as guest host.
The film, scheduled to begin production this summer, will see Thompson and Mitchell playing two delivery drivers whose routine drop-off takes a terrifying turn when they awaken Frankenstein’s monster in a creepy castle. This twist of events turns an ordinary night into a fight for survival, promising a mix of nostalgia, comedy, and unexpected thrills.
While this isn’t the first time the duo has ventured into horror comedy together, with their previous collaboration in the Nickelodeon made-for-TV movie “Two Heads Are Better Than None,” it is certainly an exciting new project for them. Thompson expressed his enthusiasm for the film, stating, “Kel and I have always loved finding new ways to work together, and this project felt like the perfect mix of nostalgia, comedy, and something completely unexpected.”
Mitchell echoed Thompson’s sentiments, adding, “Coming back together always feels natural, and this lets us tap into everything people love about our dynamic while trying something totally new. It’s funny, it’s scary, and it’s a great ride.”
The upcoming film marks the duo’s first announced joint project since their reunion for “Good Burger 2” in 2023, where they hinted at more collaborations in the future. Thompson and Mitchell first crossed paths as cast members on the Nickelodeon sketch comedy series “All That,” which led to the creation of “Good Burger” and their successful sitcom, “Kenan & Kel.”
The screenplay for “Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein” will be penned by Jonah Feingold, known for his work on “At Midnight” and “31 Candles.” The film will be co-produced by Thompson’s Artists for Artists and Range Media Partners, with a team of seasoned producers on board to bring the project to life.
John Ryan Jr., one of the producers, likened the duo to legendary comedy pairs like Abbott and Costello and Pryor and Wilder, setting high expectations for the film. He described the film as a blend of “Shaun of the Dead” meets “Scooby-Doo,” promising a unique and entertaining experience for audiences.
With Range Media Partners handling sales and the duo represented by Range Media Partners, the film is set to be a thrilling addition to Thompson and Mitchell’s collaborative repertoire. Fans can look forward to a fresh take on a classic monster story, filled with humor, scares, and the undeniable chemistry between these two comedic talents.
