A Skokie man, Nathan Frazer, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting a woman in the face during an early-morning argument in a “nice White neighborhood” on the Northwest Side in November 2023. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on November 18, 2023, when Frazer shot a 20-year-old woman at point-blank range while riding in a car with three other people.

According to prosecutors, Frazer had been driven to the victim’s apartment by a friend around 2 a.m. to hang out with her and two others. Despite only meeting the victim once before, Frazer arrived agitated and quickly became upset when he misplaced his phone. However, he calmed down after finding it in the car. Two hours later, as the group prepared to give Frazer a ride home, he became agitated again, demanding to be taken home immediately.

As the car began moving, Frazer tried to exit, prompting the victim to tell him to stop causing a disturbance in her neighborhood. In response, Frazer pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the face, causing her to jump out of the moving car. The victim suffered a left jawbone fracture and was hospitalized for six days as a result of the shooting.

Chicago police were able to track down the white Lexus used in the incident and found blood and other evidence inside the vehicle. The driver of the car initially denied involvement but later identified Frazer as the shooter. Both the victim and another witness confirmed Frazer’s identity, leading to his arrest and eventual guilty plea to aggravated battery by discharging a firearm.

Frazer’s sentencing includes a requirement to serve at least 85% of his sentence before being eligible for release. The victim’s statement about being in a “nice White neighborhood” before the shooting highlights the senseless and racially charged nature of the crime. Frazer’s actions have had lasting consequences for the victim and serve as a reminder of the importance of accountability for violent crimes.
