The Abandons and The Vince Staples Show Canceled at Netflix

Netflix has confirmed the cancellation of two of its original series, “The Abandons” and “The Vince Staples Show.”

“The Abandons,” a Western drama created by Kurt Sutter, will end after just one season. The show, set in the 1850s, starred Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson and told the story of an Irish woman living with a group of adult orphans on a farm threatened by a silver mine owner. The production faced challenges when Sutter, the showrunner, left the project due to creative differences towards the end of filming.

According to Variety, chief TV critic Alison Herman criticized the series for being “strangely thin” and not fully exploring its promising premise. She mentioned in her review that the title “The Abandons” was reflective of the show’s underdeveloped characters.

On the other hand, “The Vince Staples Show,” a satirical comedy starring rapper Vince Staples, will also be discontinued after two seasons. The show, known for its surrealist vignettes and Staples playing a fictionalized version of himself in Long Beach, received mixed reviews. While some praised its humor, others found the pacing and direction lacking.

These cancellations come amidst a wave of recent renewals at Netflix, including popular series like “Bridgerton,” “Tires,” and “Survival of the Thickest.” The news of the cancellations was first reported by Deadline.
