Travis Kelce’s Recent Taylor Swift Lyric Fail: What Happened?

Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end and co-host of the New Heights podcast, recently found himself in a bit of a pop-culture pickle. On a recent episode of the podcast, Travis and his brother Jason Kelce were discussing listener mail about the latest merch drop when they stumbled upon a Taylor Swift lyric reference that went completely over their heads.

A fan had commented that none of the hoodies in the merch drop were called “New Heights of Man-Hoodie,” referencing a lyric from Taylor Swift’s song “Wood” from her album The Life of a Showgirl. Confused by the reference, Jason jokingly questioned what a “man-hoodie” was, prompting their producer to step in and explain the joke to them.

Producer Brandon Borders clarified that the lyric was a reference to Swift’s song “Wood,” where she sings about “New Heights of manhood / I ain’t gotta knock on wood.” Travis, realizing his mistake, admitted with a laugh, “I didn’t understand that. Taylor’s gonna kill me for not knowing that!”

The brothers bantered about how Swift’s fans, known as Swifties, are experts at picking up on Easter eggs in her music, with Jason joking that they are not as sharp as the Swifties. Travis added, “They sure know how to plant ’em and call ’em out.”

The song “Wood” by Taylor Swift is known for its suggestive lyrics, with lines like “His love was the key that opened my thighs” sparking fan chatter about the explicit nature of the song. This isn’t the first time the Kelce brothers have discussed “Wood” on their show, but it is the first time Travis has openly admitted to missing a Swift lyric Easter egg.

In a previous episode of the podcast, Jason had asked Travis if he felt confident about the song “Wood,” to which Travis responded that any song Swift references him in is special to him. Jason pointed out that the reference in “Wood” was very specific to Travis, leading to a humorous exchange between the brothers about the song’s meaning.

Despite Travis’s initial confusion, it’s clear that he has a deep admiration for Taylor Swift and her music. And while he may have missed this particular lyric reference, it’s all in good fun and adds a playful twist to the podcast banter. Who knows, maybe Taylor Swift will even give him a pass for this one!
