Saturday Night Live Mocks ICE on “Weekend Update” Segment

During the latest episode of “Saturday Night Live,” the show took a light-hearted jab at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during the “Weekend Update” segment. This came just hours after a tragic incident where a 37-year-old Minneapolis intensive care nurse was killed by Border Patrol agents.

One of the hosts, Michael Che, humorously criticized Vice President J.D. Vance for suggesting that protesters should deal with ICE officers by writing op-eds or arguing on social media instead of confronting them directly. Che cheekily referenced the January 6th Capitol attack, implying that peaceful discourse doesn’t always work in every situation.

He went on to question the actions of ICE agents, humorously asking if they ever stop to consider if they are being unreasonable while pepper-spraying old ladies or shooting at a nurse. The satire highlighted the absurdity of some of ICE’s controversial actions.

The show’s cold open also poked fun at former President Donald Trump, with a spoof on awards shows featuring Michael Myers as Elon Musk. The sketch humorously referenced the distractions needed after the controversial activities of ICE agents.

Earlier on the same day, actress Natalie Portman spoke out against ICE at Variety’s Sundance Studio, wearing pins that read “ICE Out” and “Be Good” in memory of Renée Good, a victim of ICE violence. Portman expressed her concern over the brutality of ICE’s actions and called for an immediate stop to the violence.

She also acknowledged the unity and resilience of communities coming together to fight for justice in the face of adversity. Portman emphasized the importance of standing up for each other and fighting for freedom in a time of national distress.
