Apple Unveils Next-Generation AirTag with Enhanced Features
Apple has announced the release of the latest version of its AirTag, which comes with several upgrades including a longer Bluetooth range, a louder speaker, and improved precision finding capabilities. These enhancements are made possible by Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, which is also present in the latest iPhone and Apple Watch models.
The new AirTag now offers Precision Finding, which provides users with haptic, visual, and audio feedback to help locate lost items. This feature has been extended to reach up to 50% farther than the previous generation, thanks to the upgraded Bluetooth chip.
One of the significant improvements is the 50% increase in the speaker’s volume compared to the previous model. This enhancement allows users to hear the AirTag’s beep from a greater distance.
Additionally, the AirTag devices will now integrate with Share Item Location, enabling users to share the AirTag’s location with others temporarily. Apple has partnered with 50 airlines for luggage tracking, further enhancing the device’s utility.
Despite these upgrades, the pricing for the AirTag remains unchanged, with a single AirTag priced at $29 and a four-pack available for $99, including free personalized engraving.
Compatibility and Market Dominance
With the latest update, Precision Finding can now be accessed from the Apple Watch Series 9 or later and Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later. Since its launch in 2021, the AirTag has quickly become a dominant player in the Bluetooth-connected lost item finder market, displacing previous leaders like Tile.
Apple’s AirTag boasts a significant market share, with estimates suggesting that nearly 70% of trackers sold in the latter part of 2024 were AirTag devices. While Apple does not disclose specific sales figures, the device’s popularity speaks for itself.
Despite facing competition from other companies offering similar products, Apple’s AirTag remains the preferred choice for consumers, thanks to its seamless integration with Apple’s ecosystem and superior features.
Overall, the latest version of the AirTag builds upon its predecessor’s success, offering enhanced performance and functionality to meet the needs of modern users.
