He expressed his gratitude towards McIlroy, stating that without his support, the event may not have taken place.
Eric went on to promise McIlroy that the Irish Open at Doonbeg would be the best that Ireland has ever seen. He also mentioned that his father, President Trump, plans on attending the three-day event scheduled for September 10 to 13.
During the interview, Eric shared that McIlroy has formed a close bond with him and the entire Trump family. He highlighted McIlroy’s unwavering support and mentioned a recent golf outing at Trump Jupiter where they spent time together.

At the 2025 Ryder Cup, Team Europe, including McIlroy, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, and Jon Rahm, celebrated their victory over Team USA by singing a song aimed at Donald Trump. The President responded on social media, congratulating the team on their win.
According to Team Europe captain Luke Donald, the decision to mention Donald Trump during their celebration came after McIlroy received a message from the President. The team decided to have some light-hearted banter with him, and Trump took it in good spirits.
Overall, Rory McIlroy’s support and friendship with the Trump family have been evident, with his involvement in the Irish Open and interactions with various members of the family showcasing a strong bond between them.
