Kino Lorber’s MHz Choice Acquires French Series “Zorro” Starring Jean Dujardin
Kino Lorber’s streaming platform MHz Choice has recently acquired the limited French series “Zorro,” featuring Academy Award winner Jean Dujardin in the iconic role of the masked avenger. The eight-episode series, distributed by France tv distribution, is set to premiere on June 30 on MHz Choice in the United States and Canada.
“Zorro” originally aired on France 2 before making its way to Paramount+ in select international markets. This French adaptation of the classic swashbuckler story is set in 1821 Los Angeles, where Don Diego de la Vega finds himself unexpectedly becoming the mayor of the city. Facing financial troubles caused by a local businessman, Don Emmanuel (played by Eric Elmosnino), Diego decides to once again assume the mantle of Zorro to save the day. Balancing his dual identity as both Zorro and the mayor, Diego must also keep his secret from his wife Gabriella (portrayed by Audrey Dana).
Executive VP of content strategy at MHz Choice, Lance Schwulst, expressed excitement about bringing such a well-known IP to the platform. He described “Zorro” as a unique and entertaining series with Jean Dujardin adding a special flair to the character. Producer Marc Dujardin highlighted the blend of action and comedy in the show, drawing inspiration from classic swashbuckling cinema and French vaudeville traditions.
Shot entirely in Spain, “Zorro” was created by Benjamin Charbit and Noé Debré, with direction from Jean-Baptiste Saurel and Emilie Noblet. The series is a co-production involving Paramount+, France Télévisions, Le Collectif 64, and Bien Sûr Productions.
Aside from the series, MHz Choice will also debut a “Making Of” special showcasing the development and reinvention of the beloved character.
As part of the Kino Lorber Media Group, MHz Choice offers a diverse library of international series, including popular titles like “Babylon Berlin,” “A French Village,” and “The Killing.” With the addition of “Zorro,” the platform continues to provide viewers with engaging and high-quality content.
