Gomorrah – The Origins: A New Prequel Show Making Waves in the TV Industry
“Gomorrah – The Origins,” the highly anticipated prequel to the hit Neapolitan mob series “Gomorrah,” has been making headlines with a string of successful sales. Italy’s biggest TV export has captivated audiences worldwide, and the origins series is set to continue the legacy.
After its debut on Sky in Italy, Beta Film has secured distribution deals for “Gomorrah – The Origins” with HBO Max Germany, HBO Max Turkey, SBS Australia, Studiocanal in France, ORF in Austria, TET in Latvia, and Nova in Greece. The series is also scheduled to launch on Sky in the U.K., further expanding its reach.
The partnership with HBO Max Germany includes not only the new prequel but also the original “Gomorrah” series and the spin-off feature film “The Immortal.” Viewers in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Luxembourg can enjoy the entire “Gomorrah” franchise on HBO Max.
“Gomorrah – The Origins” takes viewers back to the 1970s, following the rise of mobster Pietro Savastano, who later becomes the head of the infamous Savastano clan in the original series. Played by 16-year-old Luca Lubrano, the prequel explores Savastano’s early years growing up in poverty in the Naples slum of Secondigliano.
With a focus on Savastano’s journey from a street kid to a key player in the world of crime, the origins series promises a gripping narrative filled with violence, alliances, and betrayals. Lead-directed by Marco D’Amore, who also starred in the original series, “Gomorrah – The Origins” is a collaboration between Sky Studios and Cattleya, part of ITV Studios.
“Gomorrah” made waves during its five-season run from 2014 to 2021, captivating audiences in 190 countries, including the U.S. where it aired on HBO Max. The success of the original series has paved the way for the prequel to continue the legacy of gritty storytelling and complex characters.
