A tragic incident unfolded in Texas as a father allegedly drove for hours to carry out a heinous crime against the couple who had adopted his 7-year-old daughter. Norman Lee Johnson, 42, has been charged with capital murder for the brutal shooting deaths of Christopher and Trinette Lopez, a couple who had been married for 28 years.
The horrifying incident took place on January 12, with Christopher Lopez being shot in the face and Trinette Lopez, the accused killer’s cousin, found with multiple gunshot wounds. The motive behind the killings is believed to be related to custodial issues, as Johnson is the biological father of the victims’ adoptive daughter.
Johnson reportedly drove over two hours from Harris County to the Lopez’s home in Katy, where the bodies of the couple were discovered in different parts of the house. Investigators were led to Johnson due to previous threats he had made regarding his daughter, whom he lost custody of after a lengthy legal battle.
Court records indicate that Johnson had been charged with harassment in 2024 for making threats against Christopher over the custody dispute. Despite being blocked from seeing his daughter without going through child protection services, Johnson carried out the horrific act that has left a family shattered.
The adult daughter of the Lopez couple, Kristina Rayston, expressed her devastation over the loss, stating, “My family took his daughter in when he lost custody. We raised her, loved her, and kept her safe. We were repaid by him taking their lives, and taking away the family his daughter loved and trusted.”
Following the incident, Johnson was arrested and booked into a Williamson County jail. The community is left reeling from the senseless violence that has torn apart the lives of the Lopez family and highlighted the devastating consequences of family disputes turned deadly.
