This morning, White House Border Czar Tom Homan conducted a press conference in Minneapolis, providing a detailed update on the ongoing immigration enforcement initiatives in the state. These targeted efforts aim to remove the most dangerous illegal immigrants—specifically those involved in violent crimes, including murder and sexual assault—thereby upholding President Donald J. Trump’s pledge to enhance public safety and reinforce the rule of law.

After engaging in constructive dialogues with state and local officials, Mr. Homan emphasized the progress made in ensuring that these operations are conducted efficiently, professionally, and with a clear strategy to foster greater cooperation. This, he asserted, would lead to safer communities for everyone involved.

Here’s what you might have missed:

  • “I’ve met with Governor Walz, Attorney General Ellison, Mayor Frey, various police chiefs and sheriffs… We all concurred that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is a legitimate law enforcement agency tasked with enforcing laws established by Congress to protect this community.” (Watch)
  • “Our focus has been on enhancing the safety and efficiency of these operations. The mission will improve as a result of the internal changes we are implementing.” (Watch)
  • “Our priority will be criminal aliens, public safety hazards, and national security threats… However, it’s important to note that if you’re in the country illegally, you’re still a potential target.” (Watch)
  • “Let me be clear… We are NOT abandoning the President’s mission concerning immigration enforcement.” (Watch)
  • “Those responsible for the organized attacks on ICE will face consequences. Justice is forthcoming.” (Watch)
  • “[Attorney General Ellison] explained that county jails can inform ICE about the release dates of individuals deemed public safety risks, allowing ICE to take custody upon their release… This approach increases safety for the community, the agent, and the individual in question.” (Watch)
  • “My primary focus is to ensure these discussions with state and local leaders lead to actionable results. I’m not naïve; I won’t step back without seeing this implemented, but I trust the insights shared by the people I’ve met.” (Watch)
  • “One of the key points [President Trump] shared with me was his desire to prevent loss of life… I also wish to see no one harmed—even those we are pursuing… I believe my conversations over the past few days are steering us toward a more secure community.” (Watch)
  • “The significant deployment of resources stems from the threats and violence we face… We have brought in additional support to ensure security… Once the violence subsides, we can scale back these resources.” (Watch)
  • “ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers are carrying out their responsibilities in a challenging landscape under immense pressure, yet they strive to maintain professionalism… These individuals, who wear the badge and carry a weapon, are American patriots. They risk their lives daily for this country. Remember, they don’t simply leave their personal lives behind when they come to work. They are also parents and children—and if they’ve experienced even a fraction of the tragedies I have in my career, they carry that burden home with them each day.” (Watch)
  • “Thanks to the President’s leadership, we now have the most secure border in the history of this nation—resulting in fewer women being assaulted, fewer children dying while attempting to cross the border, and less fentanyl entering the United States to endanger American lives.” (Watch)
