NBC has recently greenlit two new pilots, one being a romantic comedy titled “Newlyweds” and the other an untitled comedy featuring therapists who are also best friends, portrayed by Jane Lynch and Katey Sagal.
Written by Gail Lerner, “Newlyweds” tells the story of a free-spirited woman and a buttoned-up professor who impulsively tie the knot after a whirlwind romance. Executive producers include Jamie Lee Curtis, Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, and Scott Schwartz. Lionsgate Television is producing the show, with Universal Television serving as the studio.
Gail Lerner, known for her work on popular shows like “Will & Grace” and “Black-ish,” brings her expertise to this new rom-com.
The untitled comedy pilot, written by Kari Lizer, follows the dynamic duo of Ginger (Sagal) and Jill (Lynch), who are therapists that complement each other perfectly. Inspired by the real-life friendship of therapists and sociologists Pepper Schwartz and Janet Lever, the show explores their past, present, and future as they navigate life together. Lizer, Lynch, Sagal, and Trip the Light Productions’ Krista Vernoff, Andrew Stearn, and Alexandre Schmitt serve as executive producers. Paramount Television Studios is producing the pilot.
Kari Lizer, the creator of “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” brings her storytelling skills to this new project. With a background in writing and producing for shows like “Will & Grace,” Lizer is sure to deliver a comedic gem with this new pilot.
