Former New Jersey GOP aide Natalie Greene is making a fresh start in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with the help of her childhood friend Kristen Elizabeth Haughton-James. Despite Haughton-James’ legal troubles in the past, including arrests for cocaine possession and riding an unlicensed ATV, she will serve as Greene’s legal custodian as she moves to Florida.
Haughton-James, a mother of two, met Greene at summer camp 20 years ago and reconnected on Facebook after Greene’s high-profile arrest in November. Despite her past run-ins with the law, Haughton-James assured the court that she has completed a treatment program for her drug charge and now uses medical marijuana daily for anxiety.
Greene, who was previously accused of staging a fake attack on herself, resulting in gruesome wounds on her face and body, will now live in Haughton-James’ three-bedroom rental in Florida. She also has a job lined up in Florida and will continue her mental health treatment. The court has mandated that Greene adhere to a curfew and continue wearing an ankle monitor.
Greene’s lawyer argued in court that the move to Florida will give her a fresh start and the ability to act normal, as her job prospects in New Jersey are slim. Greene faces charges of conspiracy to convey false statements and hoaxes, as well as making false statements to federal law enforcement. If convicted on both counts, she could face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Despite her troubled past and the legal challenges ahead, Greene is optimistic about her future in Florida with the support of her childhood friend Haughton-James. The two women are determined to turn over a new leaf and leave their troubles behind as they embark on this new chapter in their lives.
