A California man, previously arrested for allegedly converting his luxury vacation rental into a covert surveillance hub and collecting thousands of files of child sexual abuse material, has been found dead.

Christian Parmalee Edwards, 44, was discovered deceased at a residence on Granite Butte Way in Oakhurst, according to the Madera County Sheriff’s Department. His body was found by an individual who subsequently notified the authorities.

Deputies arrived at 50730 Granite Butte Way, where Edwards was confirmed dead. The cause of death has not been disclosed, but investigators do not suspect foul play.

Edwards’ death follows an investigation that led to his arrest, where he faced accusations of secretly filming unwitting guests during private moments at his Oakhurst vacation property.

In March, a search warrant executed by the Madera County Sheriff’s Office and the Central California Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force led to the discovery of over 4,000 digital files containing child sexual abuse material at the property.

Sheriff Tyson Pogue stated, “Edwards was found to be watching his most recent video when detectives served a search warrant. Detectives also found a life-like child doll designed for sexual use, with its hands bound, and children’s clothing in his possession.”

According to court records, Edwards allegedly recorded women and children on the lower level of the mansion, including at least one unclothed child. He also reportedly attempted to film renters through window blinds from outside the house.

In April, Edwards was released after posting a $75,000 bail. He faced a felony charge for possession of child sexual abuse material.

During the March raid, detectives found newly purchased children’s clothing, along with the life-like child doll and the alleged cache of child sexual abuse material.

The Madera County Sheriff’s Department stated that the investigation into Edwards’ death is ongoing, though foul play is not suspected.
