New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani recently attended the funeral of a fallen soldier from the city but found himself not invited to speak, which reportedly upset him.
Mamdani had prepared a speech and anticipated being called to the podium, but this did not occur.
It seems the soldier’s family is more conservative than expected and preferred to keep the mayor’s political views out of the service. Their decision is understandable.
The New York Post reports:
Mamdani prevented from speaking at NYC soldierâs funeral despite having prepared a speech: âHe was never calledâ
Mayor Zohran Mamdani was excluded from delivering a eulogy for Army Sgt. Angel Sarah Rampersad at the soldierâs funeral in Queens on Friday. The situation unfolded as he waited to speak, sources disclosed.
Mamdani, seated in the fourth row at the Ozone Park church, was seen reviewing his speech on an iPad, while other officials, such as Gov. Kathy Hochul and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, were invited to speak, according to a source present.
âThey kept announcing names but his name was not mentioned,â the source said.
âHe turned to his staff, appearing frustrated and angry that he didnât get to speak. When he realized he was not being called, he looked at his staff in frustration and eventually put his tablet away.â
The snub occurred as Mamdani, known for his democratic socialist views and criticism of Israel and the US-Iran conflict, remains a polarizing figure both locally and nationally.
A source involved in planning the funeral said Rampersadâs family supports President Trump and preferred Mamdani not to speak.
Another insider confirmed that Mamdaniâs left-leaning political stance resulted in him losing the opportunity to speak at the funeral.
Actual patriots despise Mamdani. https://t.co/IIjVCXfjUE

This is not the typical reception he is accustomed to, is it?
