President Trump took aim at Texas Democratic Senate Nominee James Talarico during his speech at the RNC’s 2026 midterm convention, delivering a pointed critique.
Trump used humor to emphasize Talarico’s stance against eating meat and his focus on what he termed as “beating meat.”
Talarico was known for his 2022 Texas State House campaign, which he dubbed a “non-meat campaign,” pledging, “We are only buying vegan products from our local vegan businesses.” He believed this was “the right thing to do” for environmental reasons.
Commenting on Talarico, Trump remarked, “He was also somebody that hated eating meat. He ran a campaign to beat meat. He called it ‘beat meat!’”
“I don’t know what the hell he meant by that,” Trump admitted.
He then shared with the audience, “But it was bad for his image, so he started eating meat!” causing Vice President JD Vance, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and other officials to react with amusement on the sidelines.
Laughing, Trump added, “It’s getting worse. I’m getting myself in trouble.”
Such comments might typically be deemed inappropriate for a political adversary, yet Trump asserted they were true. According to him, they didn’t compare to the perceived moral issues on the left.
Liberals, feeling provoked, might now accuse Trump of homophobia.
