A recent police investigation in Santa Monica has led to multiple arrests and the recovery of $100,000 in stolen merchandise. The operation, which lasted three months, was carried out by the Santa Monica Police Department along with specialized enforcement teams and regional law enforcement partners.

The investigation resulted in the recovery of thousands of stolen items taken from various stores across Southern California, including a Lululemon store in Santa Monica. Multiple search and arrest warrants were issued across Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties as part of the operation.

According to a press release from the Santa Monica Police Department, the thefts occurred between June and October 2025. The suspects were identified as part of a coordinated retail crime network that stole merchandise and resold the items at secondary locations. Search warrants were executed in Van Nuys, Sylmar, Fontana, and Jurupa Valley.

A photo included with the press release showcased a significant haul of pricey clothing, cosmetics, backpacks, wallets, Stanley water bottles, and more that were recovered during the operation. In Sylmar, over 120 items of stolen merchandise valued at approximately $11,000 were recovered. In Fontana, thousands of stolen items valued at around $65,000 were recovered, while in Jurupa Valley, approximately $24,000 in stolen merchandise and suspected counterfeit items were seized.

The operation resulted in the arrest of five individuals who now face charges of possession of stolen property with intent to sell. The investigation remains ongoing, with the Santa Monica PD continuing to pursue leads in the case.

In a separate incident, video footage captured a group of 20 masked thieves storming a jewelry store just outside San Francisco in a smash-and-grab operation, making off with nearly $1 million in merchandise in under a minute. The thieves were seen breaking glass display cases and grabbing valuable jewelry before fleeing the scene.

The surge in retail theft in California has been attributed to Governor Gavin Newsom’s lenient policies, which allowed such crimes to escalate before stricter measures were implemented. Retail theft has been a longstanding issue in the state, prompting law enforcement agencies to crack down on such criminal activities to ensure the safety and security of businesses and communities.
