England whiteball captain Harry Brook has come clean about not being alone when he was involved in an incident with a nightclub bouncer in Wellington during their New Zealand tour in November.

Initially claiming he was by himself, Brook has now admitted that other team-mates were present at the nightclub on the night before their one-day match against New Zealand. The Daily Telegraph had reported that Brook, Jacob Bethell, and Josh Tongue were at the venue.

Brook stated, “I accept responsibility for my actions in Wellington and acknowledge that others were with me that evening. I regret my previous comments and apologize for trying to shield my teammates from the situation that arose from my decisions.”

Reflecting on the matter, Brook mentioned, “This has been a challenging period in my career, but one from which I am learning. I understand the off-field responsibilities that come with leadership and captaincy, and I am committed to improving personally and professionally.”

The New Zealand tour marked Brook’s first as captain of England’s whiteball side, which unfortunately ended in a loss in Wellington.

Brook was fined £30,000 and issued a final warning by the team management after reporting the incident, which was made public only after the Ashes series concluded. In an interview with BBC Sport, Brook admitted that he had gone out for food with some players but ended up alone at the nightclub where the incident occurred.

The Daily Telegraph reported that the cricket regulator was investigating the matter and had received paperwork from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) regarding Brook, Bethell, and Tongue. It was revealed that Bethell and Tongue had also been fined by the ECB.

Despite the incident, Brook denied claims of a drinking culture within the England team when apologizing to his teammates and fans. Criticism had arisen during the Ashes tour when a video surfaced of Ben Duckett appearing drunk during a break in Noosa.
