A missing and endangered high school student, Hailey Buzbee, 17, has sparked fears of her demise after disappearing following a meeting with a man on a gaming platform. Buzbee, from Indiana, was last seen by her parents on January 5 and was initially classified as a runaway. However, authorities later deemed her departure as planned, putting her at risk.
The man implicated in Buzbee’s disappearance is Tyler Thomas, 39, whom she had allegedly met on an online gaming platform. The Fisher police department in Indiana announced on February 1 that they believe Buzbee likely died within days of her disappearance. Thomas was spotted in Buzbee’s neighborhood driving a car linked to him. Upon questioning by investigators, Thomas admitted to picking her up. Additionally, child sexual abuse material was discovered on Thomas’ devices, and he attempted to erase videos of the teenager. Authorities have also focused their attention on residences connected to Thomas.
Following evidence suggesting that Buzbee and Thomas were together at a rental home in Hocking County, Ohio, drones, K9 units, and search teams scoured the property. While Thomas has not been charged with murder, he has been apprehended as part of the ongoing investigation, which involves the FBI.
FBI Special Agent in Charge for Indianapolis, Tim O’Malley, emphasized the bureau’s commitment to seeking justice and holding individuals accountable for their actions. He urged the public to exercise patience as the investigation unfolds and the search for Hailey continues. Thomas faces charges of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor and tampering with evidence.
Hailey’s father, Beau, described her as a young woman with a bright future, noting her intelligence, beauty, kindness, and caring nature. He expressed devastation over the situation, emphasizing Hailey’s deep love for her family and the special place she holds in many hearts. The family remains hopeful for Hailey’s safe return as the investigation progresses.
