A former Chicago Public Schools teacher, Elliott Nott, has been sentenced to five years in prison for exposing himself to young girls on the city’s Far North Side. Nott, 51, pleaded guilty to two counts of exploiting a child before Judge Domenica Stephenson. The sentence will be reduced due to time served in jail awaiting trial.

The Chicago Police Department released surveillance images of a man who exposed himself to children in the area. Nott was recognized by his ex-wife, leading to his arrest. This incident is just the latest in a series of sex-related offenses involving Nott over the years.

In 2019, Nott received probation for placing a hidden camera in a staff bathroom at Ogden Elementary School, where he taught music. The camera captured images of employees and even an 8-year-old student. Despite these charges, Nott was hired by CPS, despite previous arrests for similar offenses.

Nott’s troubled history dates back to 1993 when he was convicted of “peeping Tom” allegations involving two girls in his neighborhood. He was also convicted of prowling and loitering for spying on a young woman while teaching in New Hampshire in 2004.

This case highlights the need for stricter background checks and accountability in the hiring process for educators. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting children from predators in positions of authority.
