A Chilean man, Daniel Andres Aravena Olivia, has been sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for his disturbing actions involving a 14-year-old girl he met on the popular gaming platform Roblox. Olivia, a resident of Santiago, engaged in explicit conversations with the young teen through Roblox, FaceTime, and Zoom, leading to the exchange of inappropriate photos.
The girl’s family discovered the interactions in April 2024 and immediately reported it to law enforcement. Despite being blocked by the victim’s parents, Olivia continued his predatory behavior. In August 2024, he traveled from Santiago to Los Angeles with the intention of meeting the underage girl for sexual purposes. However, federal agents apprehended him at the airport before he could carry out his plans.
Upon further investigation, authorities found incriminating evidence on Olivia’s iPhone, including 50 images of the victim stored in his “deleted photos” folder. In March 2025, Olivia pleaded guilty to charges of enticement of a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity and possession of child pornography. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison and ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking online and the importance of parental vigilance in monitoring children’s activities on the internet. It also highlights the need for strict enforcement of laws to protect minors from exploitation and abuse. The swift action taken by law enforcement in apprehending Olivia before he could harm the victim is commendable and underscores the commitment to safeguarding vulnerable individuals from predators like him.
