ABS-CBN’s premium streaming platform iWant is stepping into the world of supernatural workplace comedy with its upcoming series “Nurse the Dead.” The bilingual half-hour show, currently in production in Los Angeles, promises to bring a unique blend of humor and the supernatural to viewers.
The series follows Noa Reyes, a Filipina nurse supervisor with the ability to see ghosts, known as her “third eye.” As she navigates the challenges of managing restless spirits in a hospital ward, she also deals with staff burnout, family pressures, and a mysterious coworker who seems to know more about her than she lets on. Grounded in the cultural specificity of the Filipino healthcare experience, “Nurse the Dead” promises to offer a fresh and engaging take on the supernatural genre.
Mark Labella leads the charge as showrunner, creator, writer, and director of the series, with Wesley Villarica and Drea Castro also directing episodes in a collaborative effort. Production is currently underway in Los Angeles and is set to wrap up in the second week of February.
The series stars Jelynn Malone as Noa Reyes, leading an ensemble cast that bridges Filipino and American entertainment. Gigette Reyes, Johari Johnson, and Anthony Jennings are among the talented actors bringing the story to life on screen. With a mix of established names and up-and-coming talent, “Nurse the Dead” promises to deliver a captivating and diverse viewing experience.
Jolly Estaris, head of iWant and ABS-CBN Integrated Digital Sales, sees “Nurse the Dead” as a key part of the platform’s strategy to reach Filipino diaspora audiences. With a focus on building boldly Filipino storytelling with global reach, iWant aims to connect with audiences across generations and geographical boundaries. The series marks a significant milestone for iWant as its first bilingual English-Tagalog production on U.S. soil, signaling the platform’s commitment to expanding its reach and engaging diverse audiences.
iWant serves a global audience with a strong presence in Filipino communities in North America, offering a mix of original series, films, and live programming alongside library content from ABS-CBN. With “Nurse the Dead” set to make its debut, viewers can look forward to a fresh take on the supernatural genre that promises to entertain and captivate audiences worldwide.
