YouTube Sees Growth in Subscription and Ad Revenue

Alphabet-owned YouTube continues to experience an upward trend in both subscription and ad revenue. The company recently announced that it has reached 325 million paying users across Google One and YouTube Premium, showing a significant increase from 300 million just three months ago.

Although YouTube’s ad revenue rose by 9% to $11.38 billion in the fourth quarter, it fell short of analysts’ expectations, which were set at $11.84 billion. However, the platform’s overall revenue, which includes both ads and subscriptions, reached $60 billion for the full financial year, marking a 17% increase from the previous year.

YouTube emphasized the success of its $8 per month ad-free premium tier, but did not disclose specific figures. The company also noted strong growth in its YouTube Premium service.

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai revealed plans to expand the platform’s subscription offerings, particularly focusing on leveraging the growing userbase of YouTube TV. Pichai announced the upcoming launch of new YouTube TV plans, which will offer more choices and flexibility to subscribers through over 10 genre-specific packages.

YouTube Shorts maintained an average of 200 billion daily views in the quarter, with some countries reporting higher earnings from short-form video ads compared to traditional in-stream ads. Pichai also highlighted the increasing popularity of podcasts, with viewers watching a total of 700 million hours of podcasts on their TVs in October.

YouTube highlighted the success of its AI features, stating that over 1 million channels are utilizing its AI creation tools. Additionally, 20 million consumers engaged with its Gemini-powered content discovery tool in December.
