Man Sentenced to Six Years in Prison for Injuring Pedestrian While Fleeing Police

A 32-year-old man, Antonio Jackson, has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to failure to report an accident involving injury. The incident occurred when Jackson ran a red light at 83rd Street and Lafayette Avenue in Chicago’s South Side while being pursued by Illinois State Police.

During the pursuit, Jackson struck a pedestrian at high speed, launching them into the air and causing multiple injuries. The victim was hospitalized for several weeks and required multiple surgeries and rehabilitation due to the severity of their injuries.

After the accident, Jackson fled the scene in his white Jaguar sedan. Chicago police units stopped to assist the victim while Jackson continued to evade authorities. The victim’s injuries were extensive, requiring significant medical care and rehabilitation.

Investigators were able to track down Jackson by linking the crashed Jaguar to him. His phone records showed his active involvement during the pursuit and at the time of the crash. Additionally, his search history included inquiries about the crash and phrases like “how to stash a Jaguar.”

Despite initially denying his involvement, Jackson eventually admitted to his actions and accepted the six-year prison sentence. He will receive credit for the time he spent in custody during the case proceedings.

This incident serves as a reminder of the consequences of reckless driving and attempting to evade law enforcement. The victim’s injuries could have been far worse, highlighting the importance of accountability for such actions.
