The NFL offseason is in full swing, and the Minnesota Vikings are already making headlines with their potential interest in quarterback Kirk Cousins from the Atlanta Falcons. Cousins, who spent six seasons in Minnesota before signing a lucrative deal with Atlanta in 2024, is now facing uncertainty about his future with the Falcons following a recent contract adjustment.

Reports suggest that the Falcons are considering releasing Cousins before the start of the new league year, giving him the opportunity to explore free agency and potentially find a new starting role with another team. Despite this uncertainty, Cousins himself has not ruled out the possibility of a return to the Vikings, stating that he is keeping an open mind about his future in the NFL.

However, if Cousins is released by the Falcons, he could also explore other opportunities outside of playing football. Some reports have suggested that he may consider a career in broadcasting, with several networks reportedly interested in adding him as an analyst.

On the other hand, the Vikings have made it clear that they are looking for an experienced quarterback to challenge their young starter, J.J. McCarthy, who struggled with consistency in his first season as the team’s starter.

As for Cousins’ current situation with the Falcons, it seems that his time in Atlanta may be coming to an end. Despite starting eight of 10 games this season and posting a 5-3 record, Cousins was benched in December in favor of rookie Michael Penix Jr. He regained the starting role after Penix’s injury but could now be on the way out as the Falcons plan to release him before the new league year begins.

The restructuring of Cousins’ contract in January, which shifted a significant portion of his salary to the following year, indicates that the Falcons may be ready to move on from him. This move would pave the way for Penix to take over as the team’s starter, although the new coaching staff in Atlanta has not fully committed to him after a mixed performance in 2025.

In conclusion, Kirk Cousins’ future in the NFL remains uncertain, with the possibility of a return to the Vikings or a new opportunity with another team. As the offseason progresses, it will be interesting to see where Cousins lands and how his career unfolds in the coming months.
