Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev made headlines at the Rotterdam Open for all the wrong reasons. During his first-round match against Ugo Humbert, the former World No.1 displayed a lack of sportsmanship by kicking billboards and swearing on court.

Medvedev, who seemed visibly frustrated throughout the match, vented his anger by exclaiming, “These balls are horrible. Please delete this fing balls from this fing life.” His outburst continued as he criticized the shape and quality of the tennis balls being used at the event, stating, “Head balls, are they round? Is it round? Are you sure because I see it not round, I see it with a bit of, how you say it, narrow. I don’t know how you call it. It’s a bit of…let’s see, scars. So it’s not super round.”

The 29-year-old also had some choice words for the umpire, expressing his dissatisfaction with the balls and even went as far as to kick the billboards around the court in a moment of frustration. Fans and critics alike were quick to label Medvedev as a ‘manchild’ for his behavior, with one Reddit user questioning his appeal.

Despite the controversy, Medvedev is set to return to action at the upcoming Qatar Open, where he will have the opportunity to redeem himself. The tournament, scheduled to take place between February 16 and 21, will see the Russian face off against other top players like Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Jannik Sinner.

It remains to be seen if Medvedev can put his outburst behind him and focus on his performance on the court. The tennis star will need to maintain his composure and professionalism if he hopes to make a strong comeback at the Qatar Open. Only time will tell if Medvedev can rise above the controversy and let his racquet do the talking on the court.
