Gunman Kills Two Men at Navy Pier, Suspect on the Run
A tragic incident unfolded at Navy Pier on Tuesday afternoon when a gunman killed two men near a loading dock. The suspect, believed to be a recently fired employee at one of the pier’s restaurants, fled into Streeterville on foot following the shooting. The victims, aged 47 and 51, were rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital but tragically succumbed to their injuries.
Authorities launched a search for the 36-year-old suspect, who was captured on video leaving the pier and heading west on Illinois Street at McClurg Court around 1:25 p.m. Police radio transmissions indicated that the suspect had a criminal history, including a prior conviction for armed robbery in 2008 and a dropped gun charge in 2017.
This incident marks the second shooting at Navy Pier, with the previous one occurring on October 28, 2023, when a man opened fire on a crowd after an argument aboard a lake cruise. The case is currently pending at 26th and California. Prior to these shootings, Navy Pier had only seen one murder, the drowning of 3-year-old Josiah Brown in 2022, for which his aunt is facing murder charges.
The security and safety of visitors and employees at Navy Pier have come under scrutiny following these violent incidents. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect or the shooting to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
