A tragic incident unfolded at a Westwood supermarket last week, resulting in the loss of a beloved grocery store employee. Deris Renoj, a mother of five, was not originally scheduled to work at that time but had selflessly taken a colleague’s shift, as reported by her devastated family.
The fatal crash occurred on Feb. 5 when a 92-year-old driver crashed into the 99 Ranch Market in Los Angeles, claiming the lives of three people and injuring six others.
Renoj’s act of kindness and willingness to help others defined her character until the very end. Despite being scheduled to close the store, she took on the morning shift from her co-worker, as highlighted in a People report.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by her family to help cover funeral and memorial expenses, honoring her memory and selfless nature.
Renoj passed away just five days after celebrating her 42nd birthday, leaving behind five children and six grandchildren. Her family reminisced about the recent birthday celebration they had shared, along with her wishes for a grand party for the future.
Although their hearts are heavy with grief, the family finds solace in their faith, believing that Renoj is now at peace in God’s eternal embrace. Her love and spirit will continue to live on through her family and all those whose lives she touched.
Two other victims of the crash have been identified as 28-year-old Zih Dao and 52-year-old Leonel Mateo. Additionally, six individuals sustained injuries in the incident, which was triggered by the elderly driver hitting a cyclist before crashing into the supermarket at high speed.
Exclusive footage of the aftermath of the crash was obtained by California Post, providing a glimpse into the tragedy’s impact.
The driver involved in the crash remains unidentified, and the Los Angeles Police Department has stated that she will not face charges. Investigations are ongoing to determine if a medical issue or mechanical failure contributed to the incident, as reported by CBS News.
Authorities are also exploring the possibility of a mechanical malfunction in the driver’s vehicle, as per the CBS News report.
