Colossal is excited to announce the upcoming Chicago premiere of the award-winning documentary, “Paint Me a Road Out of Here,” directed by Catherine Gund and produced by Aubin Pictures. This special event, co-hosted by Intuit Art Museum and the Women’s and Gender Studies Department at DePaul University, will feature a screening of the film followed by a conversation between Leah Faria, a participant in the documentary, and Colossal’s editorial director, Grace Ebert. The event is scheduled for March 25 and is free to attend, although seating is limited.

“Paint Me a Road Out of Here” delves into the untold story behind artist Faith Ringgold’s masterpiece, “For the Women’s House,” tracing its 50-year journey from Rikers Island jail to the Brooklyn Museum. The documentary also highlights the work of artist Mary Enoch Elizabeth Baxter, shedding light on the whitewashed history surrounding Ringgold’s impactful artwork.

For those interested in learning more about the documentary, Colossal offers coverage of the film along with a trailer that can be viewed on YouTube. To secure a seat at the Chicago premiere, interested attendees can RSVP online.

The event promises to be a captivating exploration of art, history, and social justice, offering a unique perspective on the power of creativity and the importance of reclaiming marginalized narratives. Join us for an evening of thought-provoking discussion and artistic inspiration at the Chicago premiere of “Paint Me a Road Out of Here.”
