Pima County Sheriff Debunks Claims of Withholding Evidence in Nancy Guthrie Case
In a surprising turn of events, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has refuted claims that investigators found a glove on Nancy Guthrie’s property. Nanos clarified during an interview with Fox News on February 13 that no glove was discovered at the scene.
Earlier reports had suggested that Nanos had prevented the FBI from examining a glove and DNA evidence found inside Nancy’s residence. Allegedly, Nanos opted to have the DNA analyzed at a private lab instead of sending it to the FBI’s national crime lab for processing.
These actions led to accusations against Nanos for prolonging the case and not utilizing federal resources effectively. However, Nanos dismissed these claims as inaccurate in a statement to KVOA.
According to Nanos, the FBI had requested to examine only a couple of gloves found near the crime scene, located about a mile and a half away. Nanos proposed sending all recovered gloves to the lab where existing DNA profiles and markers could be compared, a decision that was ultimately agreed upon by the FBI.
While Nanos acknowledged the recovery of “quite a number” of gloves during the search, he admitted that their significance was not fully understood at the time.
