A climber was airlifted to Lakes District Hospital in Queenstown following an incident on Mount Brewster in Mount Aspiring National Park today.

A spokesperson from Maritime NZ Rescue Coordination Centre stated that they coordinated the response to two climbers after a distress signal was activated at 3.25pm.

Both climbers had fallen, and one was unable to walk due to their injuries, according to reports.

A helicopter from Lakes District Air Rescue Trust in Queenstown and another helicopter from Aspiring Helicopters with the Wānaka Alpine Cliff Rescue (ACR) team onboard were dispatched to the location in case a technical rescue was necessary.

The rescue helicopter reached the scene first and located both climbers.

After assessing the situation, it was determined that a complex alpine rescue was not needed. As a result, the second helicopter, along with the cliff rescue team, was called off.

One individual received treatment at the scene and continued their climb, while the other person was hoisted onto the rescue helicopter and transported to Lakes District Hospital with minor injuries, the spokesperson confirmed.
