Nippon TV, a popular Japanese broadcaster, has recently launched Viral Pocket, a new vertical video division focused on the rapidly growing microdrama genre. This initiative stems from the success of Nippon TV’s short-form drama “We are Coy Every Day,” which has garnered an impressive 2.6 billion organic views since its debut in March 2023. Another short-form drama titled “The Final Lesson – Only Survivors Graduate” also achieved recognition by winning at the Asia Short-Form Drama Awards.
Viral Pocket is set to operate in three main areas: original IP development, end-to-end vertical production, and KPI-driven marketing support for brands and agencies. The division has already collaborated with Japanese food company Nissui, creating branded content focused on food allergies that generated over 10 million organic views in just two weeks.
Hirofumi Tanaka, Nippon TV’s president of content strategy, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative by stating, “Through Viral Pocket, we will further invest in developing emerging creators and new content formats.”
In a separate development, Eros Innovation has introduced Eros Universe, an AI-powered creator economy app that utilizes Large Cultural Models (LCMs). These LCMs are designed to incorporate cultural context, narrative structure, and regional storytelling into AI systems. The platform is trained on a vast collection of rights-cleared tokens derived from five decades of licensed cinematic and musical assets, including a library of over 12,000 films and 100,000 characters.
Eros also unveiled a $5 million Global Creator Acceleration Program to support AI-native films, series, and music projects. Kishore Lulla, the founder of Eros, emphasized that the platform empowers creators to engage directly in the digital economy while preserving the cultural significance of Indian storytelling.
These recent developments in the entertainment industry demonstrate a shift towards innovative approaches to content creation and distribution, leveraging technology to enhance storytelling and engage audiences in new and exciting ways.
