Aakash Chopra has heaped praise on Auqib Nabi for his exceptional performances in first-class cricket over the past couple of years. The former India player highlighted Nabi’s remarkable ability to pick up wickets with ease, describing it as a mere pastime for the Jammu and Kashmir all-rounder.

In the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2025-26 semi-final against Bengal, Nabi showcased his bowling prowess by claiming figures of 5/87 in 26 overs as J&K restricted Bengal to 328 in their first innings. This stellar performance further solidified Nabi’s reputation as a potent wicket-taker, with 51 scalps to his name at an impressive average of 13.01 in his ninth Ranji Trophy match this season.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra marveled at Nabi’s wicket-taking spree in the last two seasons of the Ranji Trophy. The former cricketer highlighted Nabi’s exceptional form, having taken a total of 95 wickets at an average of 13.44 in the last two years.

While acknowledging that Nabi may not be the most adept T20 bowler, Chopra expressed his belief that the 29-year-old could potentially utilize the new ball for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2026. He commended Nabi’s outstanding performances, emphasizing that he has surpassed all other seamers by a significant margin in the last two editions of the Ranji Trophy.

With 142 wickets at an average of 18.94 in 39 first-class games, Nabi has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the longer format of the game. Additionally, he has accounted for 43 dismissals at an economy rate of 7.74 in 34 T20 matches.

Chopra also speculated on Nabi’s chances of earning a spot in the Indian Test squad, noting that the presence of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep could potentially hinder his selection for India’s upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. However, Chopra remained optimistic about Nabi’s prospects, stating that his time to don the Indian jersey would eventually come.

In conclusion, Aakash Chopra lauded Auqib Nabi for his exceptional performances in first-class cricket and expressed confidence in his potential to make a mark in the international arena. As Nabi continues to excel with the red ball, all eyes will be on his future exploits and whether he can translate his domestic success onto the international stage.
