Meruert Tolegen’s Intimate SoHo Presentation
Meruert Tolegen’s latest collection showcased her talent for creating intimate and moody atmospheres. This season, she decided to clear out her SoHo boutique to create a unique presentation that captivated guests.
The dark-washed walls and dim lighting set the mood as models elegantly walked on raised platforms. The haunting melodies of violinist Taisiya Losmakova, performing “deconstructed” versions of Mozart’s “Lacrimosa” and Bach’s Partita No. 2 in D minor, added to the mystique of the event. Guests found themselves surrounded by the darkness, with the overhead lights shining down on the exquisite garments on display.
Tolegen’s attention to detail was evident throughout the collection. While some silhouettes from her previous runway show made a return, she added subtle alterations that brought a sense of maturity to the pieces. For example, a corseted dress with bustled hips was paired with a cropped jacket made from braided synthetic hair, creating a luxurious look that stood out under the bright lights.
The collection also featured more relaxed looks with a firm yet elegant touch. Uncorseted garments took on a new shape, such as a knit sweater paired with a pussy bow blouse. The incorporation of wool herringbone pieces, like a structured jacket trimmed with synthetic hair, added a sense of weight and sophistication to the lineup.
As a former CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist, Tolegen is clearly hitting her stride with this collection. The combination of intricate details, luxurious fabrics, and a unique presentation style solidifies her place as a rising star in the fashion industry.
