The recent attack on 13-year-old Sullivan Clarke on the Daytona Beach Boardwalk has left his family outraged, especially after discovering that the suspect, Jermaine Lynn Long, was released just four days prior despite a lengthy criminal record. Long, a registered sex offender with a history of violent incidents, is now facing charges for the attack on Sullivan.
The incident occurred on Valentine’s Day while Sullivan was walking with his parents and talking on the phone. Out of nowhere, Long approached him with a box cutter and slashed his throat, narrowly missing vital arteries. Sullivan miraculously survived the attack, receiving 13 stitches. Doctors noted that if the cut had been slightly deeper, it would have been fatal.
Long, who was previously convicted of sexual assault of a minor in Nebraska, also has a history of assault and drug possession charges. Despite facing pending charges for previous violent incidents, prosecutors declined to pursue the allegations, allowing Long to be released back onto the streets.
Sullivan’s parents, Jared and Lori Clarke, expressed their shock and frustration at the situation, calling for stronger measures to ensure the safety of the community. They emphasized the need for law enforcement to do more to prevent such violent offenders from slipping through the cracks.
Lori Clarke highlighted the impact of the attack on her sons, mentioning that Sullivan has been experiencing nightmares while his 11-year-old brother witnessed the traumatic incident. The family is determined to seek justice and ensure that Long is held accountable for his actions.
