Toy Story 5: A Battle Between Old-School Toys and Technology

When the first Toy Story movie hit theaters in 1995, the world was a very different place. Google had not yet been founded, and Apple was struggling to stay afloat. Fast forward over 30 years, and Pixar is still churning out Toy Story movies, with the latest installment introducing a new enemy: an evil AI tablet named Lilypad.

In “Toy Story 5,” beloved characters like Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Mrs. Potato Head, Rex, and Slinky Dog find themselves facing off against the insidious threat of technology. The trailer shows Bonnie, the new owner of Andy’s toys, receiving a mysterious package containing the Lilypad tablet. Enthralled by its capabilities, Bonnie becomes increasingly detached from her toys, much to their dismay.

One scene in the trailer shows Jessie confronting Lily, the AI tablet, about Bonnie’s well-being. Lily responds in a robotic voice, eerily repeating Jessie’s words and even translating them into Spanish. Jessie laments to Woody about losing Bonnie to technology, highlighting the growing divide between traditional toys and modern gadgets.

As the conflict between toys and tech escalates, Woody reflects, “Toys are for play, but tech is for everything.” The film explores themes of screen time, addiction to technology, and the importance of human connection in a digital age.

Will “Toy Story 5” resonate with young viewers and spark conversations about the impact of technology on our lives? While it may not completely change children’s screen habits, the film offers a thought-provoking take on the balance between analog and digital play. So, grab your popcorn and prepare for a nostalgic yet timely adventure with Woody, Buzz, and the gang.
