Ohio authorities have apprehended and charged a former “American Idol” contestant with the shooting and murder of his wife, allegedly staging the crime scene to mislead investigators.
Caleb Flynn, 39, entered a plea of not guilty on Friday to charges of murder, assault, and tampering with evidence.
“I just want to take care of my daughters. I’m not a risk,” Flynn stated during his arraignment from jail before Judge Samuel Huffman.
The judge set his bond at $2 million.
Ashley Flynn, 37, was discovered deceased on Monday following a report of a burglary and shooting at a Tipp City residence, as per a news release from Tipp City Police. Her husband and two children were present inside the home when authorities arrived.
In a 911 call released by authorities, a distressed Caleb Flynn informs a dispatcher that an intruder broke into his home and fatally shot his wife. He described the scene as bloodied with multiple gunshot wounds to his wife’s head.
“There’s blood everywhere, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god,” he exclaimed.
Flynn’s attorney, Patrick Mulligan, expressed disappointment and concern over the rapid progression of the case, emphasizing the potential for a wrongful conviction when focusing solely on a surviving spouse.
Tipp City Police Chief Greg Adkins defended the investigation process as thorough and deliberate, refuting claims of a rushed investigation.
Ashley Flynn, a middle school volleyball coach and substitute teacher, was remembered by Tipp City Schools for her radiant smile, warmth, kindness, and positive influence on many lives both in and out of the classroom and on the volleyball court.
