A New Spinoff Series “CIA” from CBS and Dick Wolf’s “FBI” Franchise

A new addition to the well-established CBS and Dick Wolf collaboration, “CIA” is a spinoff of the long-running drama series “FBI.” This new series follows an elite FBI/CIA fusion cell that specializes in investigating international plots, terrorist cells, and geopolitical secrets. While “CIA” may not revolutionize the police procedural genre, the show’s intriguing premise and connection to the successful “FBI” franchise are sure to attract both loyal fans of the original series and newcomers alike.

The pilot episode of “CIA” sets the stage in present-day New York City, introducing viewers to CIA case officer Colin Glass, portrayed by Tom Ellis. When Colin is called to a crime scene, he finds himself at odds with FBI Special Agent Bill Goodman, played by Nick Gehlfuss. Despite their conflicting personalities and working styles, they are forced to collaborate under the supervision of CIA’s Nikki Reynard (Necar Zadegan) and FBI’s Isobel Castille (Alana de la Garza) and Jubal Valentine (Jeremy Sisto) to solve a complex case.

Although it is challenging to judge a series based on a single episode, the journey to bring “CIA” to the screen has been a tumultuous one. Production delays and cast changes, including the departure of actress Michael Michele, have impacted the show’s development. With showrunner Warren Leight stepping down and Mike Weiss taking over, “CIA” faced a midseason premiere instead of its originally planned fall debut. Despite these challenges, the pilot episode of “CIA” delivers a solid New York City-based procedural drama, hinting at potential for future episodes to explore deeper storylines.

Don’t miss the premiere of “CIA” on Feb. 23 on CBS, with new episodes airing weekly on Mondays. Join Colin Glass and Bill Goodman as they navigate the complex world of international espionage and law enforcement in this exciting new series.
