A Republican Lawyer Enters the Race to Replace Rep. Jerry Nadler in Manhattan

Caroline Shinkle, a corporate lawyer with degrees from MIT and Harvard Law, is stepping into the race to fill the shoes of longtime Rep. Jerry Nadler in New York’s District 12. Shinkle, 33, who went to school with Jack Schlossberg, grandson of John F. Kennedy, aims to offer voters a fresh choice on the ballot in the highly contested district.

Despite the district’s strong Democratic presence, Shinkle is determined to bring a different perspective, criticizing the left-leaning shift of the Democratic party. She emphasizes a focus on results over resistance and pledges to address issues like border security and crime policies with a sharp eye for detail and determination.

Shinkle also takes aim at the current administration in New York, particularly Mayor Zohran Mamdani, whom she accuses of pursuing radical ideologies at the expense of public safety and affordability. She positions herself as a common-sense alternative to the current policies that she believes are failing the city.

With endorsements expected from the Manhattan GOP and the state Conservative Party, Shinkle faces competition from several other Republican candidates in the race. She advocates for bold changes such as abolishing the federal income tax and supporting tax exemptions for student loan repayments.

Having worked in Jerusalem supporting the Bank of Israel, Shinkle highlights her unwavering support for the Jewish state, distinguishing herself from some Democratic activists who have adopted a critical stance towards Israel.

As Shinkle gears up for the race, she emphasizes her commitment to combatting the city’s decline and providing a strong voice for the residents of District 12. Alongside contenders like Micah Lasher and George Conway on the Democratic side, Shinkle stands out as a fresh face with a different perspective on the future of Manhattan.
