Republican Dave McCormick’s Victory Over Incumbent Bob Casey in Pennsylvania Senate Race

Republican Dave McCormick has emerged victorious in Pennsylvania’s Senate race, defeating incumbent Democratic Sen. Bob Casey, according to a projection by The Associated Press. This win marks the 53rd Senate seat captured by Republicans in their quest to regain the majority.

The Pennsylvania Senate race was one of the most closely watched and expensive races in the country this election cycle. McCormick received early support from national Republican operatives during the state’s GOP primaries. On the other hand, Casey, who has held his seat since 2007, has strong ties within Pennsylvania, a state where the Senate race unfolded amid intense focus from presidential candidates.

With his father having served as governor of Pennsylvania for two terms in the 80s and 90s, Republicans sought to portray Casey as a career politician. McCormick, a former Army officer and member of President George W. Bush’s administration, transitioned to the private sector where his work at hedge funds drew criticism from Democrats.

McCormick’s victory is a significant win for Republicans in the Keystone State, following Sen. John Fetterman’s (D-Pa.) successful flip of the seat from red to blue in 2022. McCormick had previously run for Senate in the 2022 cycle but did not advance past the GOP primary.

Despite the projection, Casey’s campaign has not conceded. A spokesperson for the campaign, Maddy McDaniel, emphasized the importance of counting all votes before declaring a winner. McDaniel stated, “As the Pennsylvania Secretary of State confirmed today, there are still tens of thousands of ballots yet to be counted, including provisional, military, overseas, and mail-in ballots. With the race being within half a point, it is premature to call the result while the voices of thousands of Pennsylvanians are still being tallied. We are committed to ensuring that every Pennsylvanian’s vote is heard.”

The outcome of the Pennsylvania Senate race underscores the intense political landscape in the state and the nation as a whole. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
