The New York Post reported on a disturbing incident where three individuals were arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a BMW driver during a robbery near the New York Botanical Garden. The incident occurred on February 13th, in the early hours of the morning, when Amir Ahmad, 26, was ambushed and killed while sitting in his luxury car on Thwaites Place near Barker Avenue in Pelham Parkway.
The suspects involved in the crime were identified as Darlin Sanchez, Wanderlin Mateo, and Angelic Encarnacion. Sanchez was believed to be the shooter, with Mateo also armed with a gun during the incident. Encarnacion was implicated in luring Ahmad to her apartment under the pretense of a marijuana sale, only to set him up for the robbery. The fourth member of the crew involved in the crime was still at large at the time of the report.
Surveillance footage captured the suspects wearing masks and gloves as they left Encarnacion’s apartment before the robbery took place. Sanchez was overheard boasting about having a gun while in the elevator, moments before the fatal confrontation with Ahmad. The suspects demanded that Ahmad and his passenger exit the vehicle, but when Ahmad attempted to drive away, he was shot and killed.
The suspects managed to steal a gold chain and an undisclosed amount of cash during the robbery. Following the incident, Encarnacion callously returned to her apartment while the violence unfolded. All three suspects were apprehended on warrants and charged with murder, manslaughter, attempted robbery, and criminal possession of a weapon. They were remanded without bail pending further court appearances.
Mateo was also linked to a separate gunpoint robbery at a barber shop the day after Ahmad’s murder. He and an accomplice allegedly brandished firearms and stole valuables from both the barber and a customer. Mateo had a prior arrest for robbery in May, while Sanchez had a previous arrest for drug-related offenses in November. Encarnacion, however, had no prior criminal record.
The suspects are scheduled to appear in court for further proceedings, as the investigation into the deadly robbery continues.
