Samuel L. Jackson’s “Frisco King” Spinoff Gets Greenlight

After much anticipation, Samuel L. Jackson’s long-awaited “Tulsa King” spinoff is finally getting off the ground. However, there have been some changes along the way. Paramount+ recently announced that the project, now titled “Frisco King,” will commence production next month in Ft. Worth, Texas.

The mastermind behind “Tulsa King,” Taylor Sheridan, is set to write all eight episodes of the first season of “Frisco King.” This news comes after original showrunner Dave Erickson departed from the spinoff earlier this year.

Paramount Television Studios president Matt Thunell expressed his excitement about Sheridan’s involvement, stating, “We are honored to have Taylor Sheridan write the first season of ‘Frisco King’ and bring Samuel L. Jackson’s iconic character to life. Having him pen all episodes with his unique voice will be a treat for fans of ‘Tulsa King’ worldwide.”

Originally set in New Orleans, the spinoff has now shifted its focus to Frisco, Texas. While there will still be a brief visit to New Orleans, the majority of the story will unfold in Frisco.

In “Tulsa King,” Jackson portrays Russell Lee Washington Jr., a character who finds himself in Tulsa on a mission that takes an unexpected turn. The show explores themes of second chances and redemption.

Paramount+ head of originals Jane Wiseman praised the collaboration between Sheridan and Jackson, stating, “Taylor Sheridan continues to build worlds that attract iconic talent, and ‘Frisco King’ is no exception. Having Samuel L. Jackson join this universe speaks to the scale and ambition of the storytelling. We’re thrilled to expand this storyline on Paramount+.”

Production is set to begin in late March in Fort Worth, Texas, after initially being scheduled for early 2026. Sheridan, Sylvester Stallone, and Jackson serve as executive producers on “Frisco King,” alongside a talented team of industry veterans.

“Tulsa King” has already made a mark, ranking in Nielsen’s top 10 streaming originals chart for eleven consecutive weeks in Fall 2025. Jackson’s recent television projects include Apple TV’s “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey,” Marvel’s “Secret Invasion” on Disney+, and Peacock’s “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist.”
