Kate Winslet will headline a new Netflix limited series titled “The Unheard,” which is described as a vengeance drama reminiscent of “Thelma & Louise.”
The series, penned by “Adolescence” writer Jack Thorne, consists of five episodes and is scheduled to begin filming next year.
Starring alongside Winslet is Maxine Peake (“Say Nothing”). They portray two sisters who find themselves on the run following a botched act of vengeance. As they are frantically chased, the narrative explores what led them to this hazardous decision and questions whether they ever intended to escape the consequences.
The series is directed by Mounia Akl.
Anne Mensah, Netflix’s head of U.K. content, introduced the show at the Edinburgh TV Festival. She also revealed other upcoming projects, including a “Top Boy” spin-off featuring Barry Keoghan and a new Roald Dahl series based on the author’s short stories, starring Dominic West, Imelda Staunton, and Nicola Coughlan.
“In the fiercely competitive U.K. market, merely being adequate is not sufficient,” Mensah stated. “We must strive for exceptional quality. Our diverse slate of drama, comedy, entertainment, live, and factual programming highlights the risks we are willing to take and showcases the remarkable creativity of the U.K. that we are proud to support. We eagerly anticipate what 2027 will bring.”
“The Unheard” is produced by Warp Films, Matriarch Productions, and Plan B, with Winslet also serving as an executive producer alongside Thorne.
