The Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts (IDSVA) is thrilled to announce that applications are now open for the PhD program in Art Theory, Aesthetics, and Philosophy for individuals holding a BA or BFA degree. This innovative program offers a unique opportunity for artists and creative thinkers to delve into advanced scholarship while maintaining their professional commitments.
The IDSVA program consists of three years of coursework followed by the dissertation phase, providing a research-based and low-residency option for those looking to expand their understanding of art, culture, and human experience. The curriculum is designed to accommodate working art professionals, allowing them to pursue academic excellence without sacrificing their careers or other responsibilities.
One of the defining features of IDSVA is its nomadic nature, with students participating in online seminars and intensive residencies in various locations such as Rome, Tuscany, Venice, Berlin, Athens, and New York City. This global approach to education fosters a diverse and vibrant community of learners from around the world.
Dr. Jason Hoelscher, an IDSVA alumni, shared his success story, highlighting how his experience at IDSVA contributed to his career advancement. As a Full Professor at Georgia Southern University, Dr. Hoelscher credits his publications, conference presentations, and exhibitions to his time at IDSVA.
International applicants are also encouraged to apply, with IDSVA offering F-1 visas for a one-week residency in the U.S. Foreign students can complete their studies from their home country, making the program accessible to a global audience.
