New Zealand secured a spot in the Twenty20 World Cup semi-finals as Pakistan was knocked out despite a narrow five-run victory over Sri Lanka in a thrilling match in Pallekele. Pakistan needed a big win to advance but fell short due to their inferior net run rate.

Pakistan posted a formidable total of 212-8, thanks to a record-breaking 176-run opening partnership between Sahibzada Farhan (100) and Fakhar Zaman (84). However, Sri Lanka put up a valiant fight and finished on 207-6, just missing out on a win.

In a crucial match between defending champions India and West Indies, the winner will secure the last semi-final spot.

Pakistan captain Salman Agha expressed disappointment over the loss, attributing the defeat to the dew factor and execution errors.

Farhan’s exceptional performance, breaking Virat Kohli’s record for most runs in a T20 World Cup, was a highlight of the match. Despite his heroics, Pakistan’s late collapse cost them the game.

Sri Lanka’s early struggles in the chase were overcome by Pavan Rathnayake’s aggressive batting and Dasun Shanaka’s explosive innings. Shanaka’s late onslaught almost led Sri Lanka to victory, but they fell short.

Overall, it was a thrilling match with twists and turns, showcasing the unpredictable nature of T20 cricket.
