The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey has teamed up with Art Bridges to showcase an exciting exhibition featuring the works of Will Wilson and historic photographs by Edward Sheriff Curtis. The exhibition, titled “In Conversation: Will Wilson,” will be on display in the Main Gallery until August 23, 2026.

Will Wilson, a Diné (Navajo) artist born in 1969, brings a contemporary perspective to the portrayal of Native peoples in photography. By employing modern techniques and digital media, Wilson challenges the traditional narratives established by Curtis in his monumental project, “The North American Indian” (1907–1930). Through his work, Wilson prompts viewers to reconsider issues of identity, visibility, and the power dynamics inherent in representing indigenous cultures visually.

“In Conversation” creates a compelling dialogue between past and present, inviting audiences to reflect on the ways in which photography shapes our understanding of cultural heritage. The exhibition serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of acknowledging and challenging historical representations of Native communities.

In addition to the featured exhibition, the Visual Arts Center will host “Present and Growing,” a solo show by Gabriel Garcia Roman, in the Mitzi and Warren Eisenberg Gallery. Visitors can also explore “With Passing Years,” an exhibition showcasing the work of Chrystofer Davis, in the Marité and Joe Robinson Strolling Gallery I until June 7, 2026.

For more information about the exhibitions and upcoming events at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, please visit their website at artcenternj.org. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to engage with thought-provoking artwork that challenges conventional narratives and celebrates the rich cultural heritage of indigenous communities.
